Poker Odds
In a game of poker a player needs to view a lot of things before making decisions. The player's position, strength of the player's hand, their ability to play and the style of their opponents are all factors that need to be weighed before the player decides to commit his chips to the pot or not.
In addition to these important factors, there are two more. These are the pot's expected size and the pot's current size.
In considering about committing to a pot or not, I suggest that you look at these two important factors most. That is above anything else consider the current size and the expected size of the pot. Here's why.
Let's say there are three more players in the hand, and in your possession you have red pocket threes in a small blind. Before the flop, the pot wasn't raised. And now, you can see the flops are coming, 2h 8h 4s. Two other players make a call and the big blind bets. The right thing to do in this round is to fold. It is most likely that you will lose in this round, the chance you have is only about 22:1 that the hand might improve to three of a kind.
There are three methods to examine the size of the pot: 1. Determine the immediate odds of your pot
2. Determine if the odds are implied
3. Determine if the subject in your hand is to reverse implied odds
The odds of the pot is the actual figuring of the player's pot odds, this is basically on calculation. The player should know how much is in the pot at the moment and so the player can determine how much is the cost if the player calls. It is important to know the immediate odds of the pot. This will give the player the foundation of the player's decisions.
If the player determine only the odds of his pot this will not give the player a sensible decision. The player should also consider the figure of the implied odds and know if it is reverse odds at work.
To calculate the implied odds the player needs to have a better understanding of how his opponents play. The player will have better implied odds if his opponents have the worse play, but if the opponents have the better play in their hands, the player is more likely to lose.
Poker has many things to consider once the player is seated at the poker table. There are a lot of strategies to learn and the best thing to do is play poker one hand at a time, learn and observe.
